A Personal Story

Submitted: Sept 2, 1999

Name: Violet
Weight: 108
Success: No
Preg test: Yes. Positive

What was the date of the first day of your last menstrual period? July 7th
Do you know the date of fertilizing intercouse? No, but I believe sometime within a few days after my period.
What was the date you were expecting menstruation? Aug. 12th

When were the herbs started? Beginning of August - my temp went up, which is usually a sign of ovulation, and I started taking queen anne's lace seeds and evening primrose capsules.
Please include dosage information:
1 teaspoon of q.a.l. and 1300mg.of evening primrose

Were you successful in using the herbs? No.
But I did not take the queen anne's lace every day, nor did I chew the seeds (I swallowed them down whole with a glass of milk). When it became obvious that I might be pregnant, I began taking a tincture of pennyroyal, rue and mugwort (1-3 droppers full a day) and tried the parsley-tampon method.

Is there anything you would have done differently?

I would have taken the queen anne's lace every day until my period-expected date, and a little beyond that if neccessary. I would have chewed the seeds rather than swallowed them whole. I would have tried a tea of fresh rue rather than the tincture, which had so many other herbs in it that the effect of anyone was probably minimal (vitex, kava, blue cohosh).

Both these herbs, queen anne's lace and rue (in combination with pennyroyal) have worked for me on several occaisions when I suspect I may have been pregnant. On this occaision, my partner and I decided that we had been extra careful about not having unprotected sex during my fertile days, and so I was less diligent than usual about taking the seeds, etc.
