Name: SunTyger
Age: 18
Weight: aprox 170 pounds
Success: No
Preg. Test: Yes. Positive.

What was the date of the first day of your last menstrual period?
I'm unsure, but it was around Dec. 1, 1999

Do you know the date of fertilizing intercouse? What was it? No.

What was the date you were expecting menstruation?
Again, I'm unsure, but I knew I should have started menstuating before January 10th. (I have a very regular 28-day cycle, and I had had guests from out of town on December 12, and I knew that I hadn't had my period then or since then.)

When were the herbs started? January 13

Please include a summary of dosage information. (Feel free to go into more detail below in the comments section)

I used tinctures of Dong Quai, Pennyroyal, Black Cohosh, and Blue Cohosh. I began with 10 drops each Black and Blue Cohosh, and 20 drops each of Dong Quai and Pennyroyal, drunk in hot water every four hours during the day. I increased the dosage gradually until I was taking 30 drops of each herb.

How was the pregnancy ended? Clinical abortion.

Were you successful in using the herbs? No.

Did you have a pregnancy test? What was the result? and when was it taken?
I took a pregnancy test on January 10th, and it was positive.

Is this your first pregnancy? Yes.

Were you using birth control? No.
What kind/method of birth control/contraception were you using? Do you know how/why it failed? If you were not using birth control, please share why not.
I had used several forms of birth control in the past, all with unpleasant side effects. My boyfriend and I decided to use the "withdrawal" method, and had been successful for a year.

When I found out I was pregnant, it was something I was completely unready for. After many tearful conversations with my boyfriend, we decided that neither of us were ready for a baby at this time. We're barely keeping a roof over our own heads as it is, and I’m only just now starting to recover from debilitating panic attacks that have kept me mostly out of work for 8 months. I made an appointment for a clinical abortion, but was scared witless of going through with it. I have a general mistrust of doctors, and an extremely low pain tolerance...not to mention the mere sight of a needle makes me hyperventilate. That was when I found this page. The thought of being able to end this pregnancy without putting myself through that ordeal was attractive, to say the least. I began taking the dosages of herbs listed above, every four hours. I did not wake myself up at night to dose, but I was very good about taking the herbs regularly while I was awake.

By day three I was getting a little panicky, so I started increasing the dose, so that by the beginning of day 4, I was taking over 30 drops of each herb.

Unfortunately, I had seen no results by day 5, and, not wanting to poison myself, stopped taking the herbs. (One quick note: when I bought the tinctures, I bought an alcohol-free variety. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with their effectiveness or not--maybe the alcohol-removing process affected them somehow, maybe not--but I thought I'd mention that.)

I went in for my clinical abortion on January 22. It was a horrible experience, but overall, I'm glad that I went through with it. I want my children to have two emotionally and financially stable parents, and I just can't provide that right now.

Even though this didn't work for me, I'm glad this page is here, and I'm hapy for the women it did work for. Women should be educated more about how to work with their bodies, and I think this is a step in the right direction.

Is there anything you would have done differently?
Probably not. It seems to me, from reading the different stories, that this is a very hit-or-miss kind of thing. Either it'll work, or it won't. I'm really not sure what I could have done to make it work better, except to dose during the night, and I get the feeling that wouldn’t have helped.
